Negotiation and emotional connectivity
If you work in HR or in any other leadership position, it is essential to have a repertoire of possible actions to take and so, the competency of negotiating.
There are two main criteria how to define “negotiating”: On the one hand, tools are required and from this perspective, we talk about BATNA (Best Alternative to Negotiated Agreement). The best alternative to negotiated agreement includes a negotiation-planning framework considering needs and position, plus common ground and options.
This technique gives you awareness about your perception of best alternatives and, it may also show you how strong your own position is.
With BATNA you are well equipped and prepared before you enter into a negotiating conversation.
On the other hand, techniques or methods about negotiating processes will not be the one and only, if you are not aware of how to balance your own emotional state. Starting with your internal emotional connection means to focus on two aspects: The cognitive and the heart connection (feel it mindfully) before “turning to the field” which means to connect emotionally with others.
The preparation you can do every day is to connect yourself with your own emotions and it is easy to learn. If your mindset generally is to welcome other people (the field), you will be in tune and other people will resonate your welcome that means that they will welcome you as well.
Imagine every negotiation you conduct will be a negotiation with a friend, how would this be? Both of you would focus on a win-win situation just feeling happy, how would this be?
You have already experienced this, when you and your friends plan an evening or a trip to a place or a party different people having different ideas and needs.

More InformationTake one of these situations and return them to mind, take a second and look at this special moment by visualizing your friends and listen to what they say and how it feels at this moment.
Listen to the flow of conversation in all respects and perceive how everybody is finally happy.
Name this feeling and remember this name in your next negotiation process.
It is this kind of feeling you request and if you believe that you can achieve a better result through conducting negotiations like this – in a connected-to-the-people way – come and see me at the Negotiation Conference in June 2018.
